Ireland-based packaging group Zeus has announced the acquisition of The Weedon Group, one of the UK’s largest independent integrated corrugated manufacturers.

The Weedon Group has annual sales revenues in excess of £30m (€35m) and over 250 staff across two UK locations. The acquisition of The Weedon Group takes Zeus’s expected annualised sales revenues to €560m.

The Weedon Group is an integrated manufacturer of corrugated packaging and has three business units: Weedon Corrugated Products in Audenshaw near Manchester operates a corrugator and produces sheet board for internal and external conversion as well as industrial and transit packaging. Weedon PSC at Hednesford, Staffordshire produces POS displays and printed packaging for the retail market. The i2i europe Creative Solutions unit develops packaging solutions for the own brand label market.

Keith Ockenden, Zeus Group CEO said: "The acquisition of Weedon Group is a key facet of  Zeus Group’s Vertical Integration Strategy. We now have robust in-house capabilities along the entire paper supply chain, from raw material processing to manufacturing, right through to distribution and retail. Our investment strategy is also focussing on paper-based solutions over traditional plastic-based production."

Zeus has been growing through acquisitions for some time now. In 2023, the company acquired Italian wholesale and service company Cima Paper, Northern Irish James Hamilton Group and Polish Polpack. In 2022, Swanline, Boxmart and JJ O'Toole became part of Zeus. The company now has nearly 1,100 employees and operates roughly 60 sites in 36 countries.
